First off, Happy Labor Day! I love Labor Day because the Power's Cross Road Festival comes right on our street! Plus, its the only time in the whole year that big groups of people gather on our 'country-side' of town! We actually didn't go to the festival this year, instead we went next door for a neighborly get-together and had a cook-out.
While Daddy smoked pork on his smoker, Elizabeth, Abigail, and I could smell it all day! Mommy made her famous chocolate chip cookies, and around 5:10 p.m., we walked over to our neighbor's house with smoked pork, chocolate chip cookies, and two bags of chips to bring. Our other next door neighbors came and so did their cousin. There were ribs, black-eyed peas, potatoes, maccoroni n' cheese, hot dogs, hamburgers, brownies, upside-down pineapple cake, and many other good things to eat!
After the children had finished eating, our friends John and Julianne played Pickle (a baseball game) and hide n' go seek with Elizabeth, Abigail, and I. Soon enough though, we all decided that in order to have a 'real' game of baseball, we needed the men to play! (Our dads!) So, after much persuading, Elizabeth was able to wriggle our dads into playing baseball with us! Here's what she said:
Elizabeth: "Mr. Mike, if you could be any, what would you be?"
Mr. Mike: "Any what?"
Elizabeth: "A pitcher or a catcher?"
Mr. Mike: " Well, I suppose a catcher."
Elizabeth: "Ha Daddy, Mr. Mike's going to play baseball with us, won't you?"
Daddy: "Well, I suppose if Mr. Mike's going to play then I'll play too."
Now of course Mr. Mike never actually agreed to playing, but he did! So Daddy played too, then eventually, John's dad, Mr. Jim played with us. It was so much fun! And boy, oh boy! How Daddy and Mr. Jim could hit! Mr. Mike didn't actually bat, but he played catch with us! While our dads and the kids were playing baseball, our moms talked to oneanother and cheered.
We all had such a great time, and I was a actually a bit sad when we had to go home. I know that I am blessed though to have such a wonderful family and such kind and caring friends!
P.S. Pictures coming soon!
