Is America's Obsession with Screen Entertainment Impacting Americans for the Positive or the Negative?

(School assigned topic.)

I, like many other people, enjoy watching movies. I'm not a big fan of video games and I don't like t.v., but I can't say that I didn't ever like them. However, I do think that Amercian's have become WAY too wrapped up in screen entertainment. I mean, have you seen how many advertisements are in your local stores? How about all the merchandise items like Ps2's, Xboxes, Gamecubes, Playstations, Wii's, huge Screen t.v.'s, Dvd players, Gameboys, I go on and on! It is absolutely bizzarre how much people will pay for all these things that won't last even a life time! All of the video games, screen t.v.'s, ect., they're JUST THINGS. They're JUST OBJECTS. In short, they're NOTHING. And it is wrong that people get so wrapped up in these THINGS, that they make them into IDOLS. It can and does happen, even when you don't know it.

Now I'm not saying that we should get up and gather all of our electronic devices, throw them into a huge pile, set them on fire and watch them burn. Don't think that you need to do that, that would just be ridiculous. Its absolutely fine to have to have these things! What isn't okay is when they play too big of a role in our lives, and sadly they do.

Years ago, when my parents still payed for satelite, I used to sit in front of our tv and watch stupid episodes for HOURS. Now I'm talking about maybe three hours, which wasn't right, but how many hours do most people spend in front of the t.v. every week? Here's a quick summary: A LOT! Not to mention that there's a lot of junk on tv's now. Foul language, inapropriate behavior, ect. Once my parents stopped paying for satellite though, I started doing more useful things with my time. Now, whenever I go to peoples house and they're watching satellite tv, I pretty much just look at the t.v. and hink YUCK!

So does screen entertainment have a good impact in America? For the most part, no. That's my oppinion. Sorry to dissapoint anyone, but I think that t.v. honestly has no use when it is only being used for self idleness and pleasure.
Overall, I'm not very impressed with screen entertainment. Of course, I ask that no one gets offended because that is just my oppinion.

Movies like 'Fireproof', 'Facing the Giants', the 'Left Behind' series, 'Faith Like Potatoes', 'The Passion of the Christ' and many other Christian movies/series can be used to help benefit others. It really just depends on how you use screen entertainment in your life. Is it for good or for bad?
